Chargeable Weight

Chargeable Weight

Chargeable Weight is the calculation done by the carrier to determine the cost of shipping.

The formula used by freight carriers to calculate the cost of shipping. It can either be based on gross weight (the actual amount your shipment weighs) or volumetric weight (a calculation based on space rather than mass), whichever value is higher between those two options.

Since the space each carrier has is limited, a heavy weight and size cargo will “cost” the carrier more than a light one. So, in some cases, in some cases, especially when shipping by air, there will be two different weights: an actual weight and a chargeable weight.
